Gerry Lindo receives SAFe Scrum Master certification

Published on: August 28, 2023

Gerry Lindo, Enterprise Systems Senior Project Manager, EASI, recently completed his Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Scrum Master certification. This certification allows Gerry to coach agile teams to deliver significant business value to the people who commission and use product and solutions within the University of Toronto’s Student Information Systems.

SAFe is a set of organization and workflow patterns intended to guide enterprises in scaling lean and agile practices. Within the context of information technology, SAFe can be associated with the principles and practices for working with teams to develop computer systems that aim to minimize waste while also maximizing the value gained in delivering those systems. SAFe is one of a growing number of frameworks that seek to address the problems encountered when scaling beyond a single team.

“Gerry’s new credentials and knowledge will be a very important asset to the new organization structure within the Student Information Systems and will pave way to more efficient practice as we embark on the Scaled Agile Framework for the entire team,” says Vikram Chadalawada, Assistant Director, Student Information Systems, EASI.

Over two days, Gerry worked with various Scrum Masters to learn best practices for coaching agile teams and discussed solutions to common real-world problems associated with systems development and how best to apply them to the U of T environment.

As a result of this certification, Gerry is certified to perform the duties of a Scrum Master in a SAFe enterprise, which means he can help ITS work toward meeting our evolving needs as we produce systems and products for the University community.

“Achieving this certification shows that I’ve learned how to facilitate Scrum events, support Planning Interval and DevOps executions for continuous flow and delivery and much more,” explains Gerry. “Taking this course was a pleasure to do and I’m excited to apply these new skills to help advance ITS and the University.”

Congratulations to those who have since also received their SAFe certification:

  • Kevin Brennan, Business Architect, EASI
