A message from Donna Kidwell, U of T CIO

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Zoran Piljevic to the role of Deputy CIO. Zoran will retain his responsibilities as Senior Director, Technology and Business Transformation at the University of Toronto Scarborough’s (UTSC) Information & Instructional Technology Services while joining the Office of the CIO for a one-year term. At UTSC, Zoran has led major initiatives to modernize campus IT infrastructure, implement enterprise solutions and drive strategic technology adoption to support academic and administrative excellence for the campus.

Moreover, since I joined U of T a little over a year ago, I have consistently observed Zoran’s acumen and deep understanding of our technology landscape across the university. And crucially, he brings wisdom to his work as well as genuine caring for the people that make up our community. I have had the chance to see Zoran lead with grace, creating leadership opportunities for his colleagues and identifying areas where we can work together. I am very excited that he has accepted this role.

Exciting things are happening at UTSC, including the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH). This facility will support programming and faculty development—in collaboration with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy’s hospital partners—bringing world class health science opportunities to Scarborough. I am thrilled that our IT work across IT@UofT will be informed by Zoran’s strategic work at UTSC. I deeply appreciate the partnership of Andrew Arifuzzaman, Chief Administrative Officer at UTSC. We are stronger when we are learning from each other, and I am excited to have senior leadership from across the tri-campus community helping to shape our IT leadership.

As Deputy CIO, Zoran has agreed to co-sponsor a new Tech Alignment Task Force, co-chaired by leaders from across all three campuses. This one-year Task Force will help us organize around key technology pillars: identity, asset management, endpoint management, networks and firewalls, data management, and service delivery. The working groups of the Task Force will help us quickly identify where we can work together, looking for best practices that can scale and where together we can seek operational excellence. Zoran will also serve as a strategic advisor to Susan McCahan and I as our portfolios progress.

In the coming months, I look forward to Zoran’s leadership in this role. I encourage you to offer feedback to either of us as we work together to shape the future of IT@UofT.

Donna K. Kidwell
Chief Information Officer, University of Toronto
