How long have you worked at U of T?

I have worked at U of T for ten years and have been in IT at Victoria the whole time.

What is your secret or not-so-secret talent or hobby outside of work?

I have played basketball my whole life, from school to competitive teams. I still play with friends when I get the chance, and in my spare time I am cheering on the Toronto Raptors.

How and why did you get involved in this hobby?

I’ve been playing basketball since grade six. It started with morning pick-up games before school with friends, and over time I joined my school’s official basketball team. Those early-morning games before classes were always the best part of my day.

Do you have any professional training?

I received formal training both through my school team and through a competitive registered team in Cairo City, Egypt called the city hydro company team, where I played for four years during high school and university.

Do you have any outstanding memories or accomplishments from this hobby?

I have very fond memories of playing competitively in the second division league for youth with the city hydro company team, where we competed across Egypt. Through this team, I learned self-discipline and the importance of training persistently towards a goal.

Who/what are your inspirations?

I’ve always been inspired by Michael Jordan, and after moving to Canada I became a big fan of the Toronto Raptors — I watch almost every game on TV.
