How long have you worked at U of T?
I have been working at Advancement Communications and Marketing (ACM) in the Division of University Advancement (DUA) for about nine years now.
What is your secret or not-so-secret talent or hobby outside of work?
I am a sailor. I restored a 1984, 27-foot C&C sailboat that was originally built in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s currently berthed at LaSalle Park Marina in Burlington.
How and why did you get involved in this hobby?
My wife and I have always loved being by the lake. During COVID lockdown, I started watching a lot of sailing YouTube channels and once the lockdown lifted, we came across this boat that we loved instantly, so we decided to buy and restore it.

Do you have any professional training in this field?
I don’t have any professional training in restoration, but I have previously worked on cars and I love to tinker with things. I did get a boater’s license and joined the Burlington Sailing & Boating Club where I formally learned to sail.
Do you have any outstanding memories or accomplishments from this hobby?
It’s wonderful to see my three-year-old experience the joys of being close to nature, enjoy the fresh breeze and listen to the waves. She loves helping me out with everything from docking to sailing, and she’s often the most active participant in boat meet-ups with fellow sailors.
Who/what are your inspirations?
My wife and my daughter.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Follow your passion and cherish all the small and big wins. And never stop learning — you never know what is waiting for you outside your comfort zone.
