This session comprises demonstrations of a selection of AI tools for qualitative data analysis, and discussion about their potential for research and evaluation. Using sample data, we consider a series of analytic tasks and methodological implications of use in different contexts, with different types of data and at different stages in the analytic process.
- Generative-AI capabilities and their application to qualitative research
- Automated transcription
- AI summaries
- AI coding and code suggestions
- Conversing with qualitative texts and coded data
- Demonstrations of three tools chosen to illustrate variety in capabilities
- MAXQDA – example of Gen-AI integrations into established suite of analysis tools
- Reveal – example of Gen-AI App for qualitative analysis – participant-based data
- AILYZE – example of Gen-AI App for qualitative analysis – variety of qualitative data
- Keeping the human in the loop using AI tools for qualitative research
- Integrating the use of GenAI features in the analysis process
- Pros and cons of using general-purpose vs. bespoke AI tools for qualitative analysis
