Announcing Kate Giovacchini, Executive Director of Digital Transformation, AI
Published on: May 20, 2026
Following a highly competitive search, the hiring committee selected Kate for her demonstrated leadership in digital innovation, her strategic approach to transformation, and her ability to drive meaningful change in complex institutional environments.
Kate brings more than 13 years of experience in higher education at Arizona State University, where she led initiatives in process improvement, digital transformation, online education technology, data architecture, and learner experience. The throughline of her career has been connecting academic processes to technology systems and respecting the role each person plays, from students, staff and faculty to end user.
Her experience also reflects a deep understanding that successful technology adoption depends not just on the tools themselves, but on building trust, aligning processes, and supporting digital transformation. This perspective will be critical as the university advances its approach to AI and emerging technologies.
In this new position, Kate will play a pivotal leadership role in advancing the university’s technology modernization and AI readiness across its tri-campus community. A primary focus of her work will be leading the design, implementation, and scaling of the AI Kitchen — a secure, innovative environment for AI experimentation and deployment. Her work will span the modernization of our student systems and oversee development of academic and research technologies.

We are excited that Kate has joined U of T as of May 1, 2026. Please join us in welcoming her to the community and supporting her in this important leadership role.
