Recent rise of business email phishing
Published on: October 26, 2018
On Oct. 9th 2018, three different business email compromise (BEC) phishing emails were sent to University of Toronto (U of T) employees from what appeared to be a senior U of T official. The phishing emails ask the reader to respond to an urgent request for assistance.
BEC phishes come from a cyber-criminal impersonating an executive. The scammer is attempting to get an employee to send sensitive information and transfer funds via gift cards and/or e-currencies. If you receive an email like this, please forward it to email@example.com.
