Thursday@3: Updates on Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

October 21, 2021, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Thursday at 3

Presenters:

  • Ben Poynton – Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Officer
  • Chris Sabatinos – Web Accessibility Specialist (AODA)

Are you aware of new developments related to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)? At our next Thursday@3 webinar, special guests Ben Poynton and Chris Sabatinos from the University of Toronto AODA office (Division of People Strategy, Equity & Culture) will share updates and insights related to changing institutional and provincial expectations. In the coming months, the provincial government requires more detailed reporting our compliance with current AODA accessibility standards. At the same time a provincial initiative has prepared draft recommendations for higher education standards aiming to move away from a deficit model of disability that views disability as a problem to be fixed, reduce persisting barriers and address attitudinal barriers that remain a challenge. Resources and strategies to ensure the capacity and support of IT staff in delivering accessible services will be shared.

All ITS Staff are welcome. Please register to receive calendar invitations to this and future events in the Thursday@3 series.
