Eduroam

Eduroam or education roaming, provides roaming wireless network access for students, staff and faculty at partner institutions. Users are able to authenticate using the same credentials as they would at their home institution or office. UofT faculty, staff and students, therefore, can use their UTORid to gain access to the eduroam service at affiliated institutions. Likewise, other institution members can access the UofT eduroam service using their usual credentials.

Students, educators and researchers are mobile, using wireless connectivity as they travel to other institutions.  Normally this required the visitor to obtain a special temporary authentication credential. Additional effort was required by the visitor and the visited institution to maintain these extra credentials.

When both the visitor's and the visited institutions participate in eduroam, the visitor is automatically permitted access to the wireless networks of the visited institutions by using their home-organization credentials.
